Hi WikiTreers,
If you have signed our Honor Code you might notice that it now says "Signed [date]" at the top of your profile.
If you are a Family Member or Guest, it says "Joined [date]".
The following will be too deep in the weeds for most, but if you're interested in the details ...
Two weeks ago we released a large round of changes connected with the new Genealogist Sections.
A small part of these big changes was the addition of "Joined [date]" beneath your member type at the top of your profile. Prior to this we had a much smaller line on member account profiles that said "Account confirmed [date]" along with the line "[WikiTree ID] created [date]" that appears for all profiles.
We don't actually store joined dates anywhere. Your confirmed date is the date your email address was confirmed. That date may have been updated if your email address was changed, you reconfirmed your email address, your account profile was merged with another, or even in some cases if you changed your last name at birth.
We are still using confirmed dates as quasi-joined dates in some places. As mentioned above, we're still doing it for Family Members and Guests. And it will still appear on profile previews and G2G profiles, unless we decide to update those.
Personally, I think emphasizing the date you signed the Honor Code is a good thing. The Honor Code is what binds us together as a community. The date you signed is a more relevant marker for when you joined the community than any other I can think of.
Do you agree? Or do you see any problems, or have questions? Post here.
Thanks!
Chris
