Can I propose a new sticker?

I would like to propose a Sticker for Peace Corps Volunteers. This could include their country of service ( with flag ), dates of service and what their service involved ( teaching, health service, etc. ). This would include all returned PCV's as well as current volunteers.

So, if this is an official proposal for a new sticker, per guidelines :

If you would like a new Sticker, whether or not you are a member of the Templates Project, propose it in G2G using the Stickers tag. Include your thoughts on what it would say and give examples of profiles you manage that you would place it on. If three or more other active members say that they would also use it on profiles they manage, and there aren't strong objections from the community, it can be created.

Help Stickers

 .

I would support it.  In part because I don't see Peace Corps as an occupation, but a calling.  You may be part of the Peace Corps and retain your actual occupation at the same time.  Essentially, the Peace Corps is similar to the employer, not the employee.

BTW, I have already proposed the sticker with information on what it should contain.

You may want to consider Occupation Template. You can add any flag or picture and any text you want. You can also embed a link to a page by entering [[Space:enter page here|enter text here]] in the text section.

I dunno.  I wouldn't necessarily regard a Volunteer position as an Occupation, at least not the way being a nurse is.  After all, you can be a doctor, a nurse, an engineer, etc, and still Volunteer for the Peace Corps.

I would support such a sticker.

To answer one comment, yes, I am a returned PCV. One of the first 10,000, actually. There are over 100,000 returned PCV's in the US. Since it is a two-year commitment and is considered Federal Service, like the military, it seems to me that it should be given similar recognition as the military. And, Melanie, you can't be part of the PC and retain your actual occupation. It is a two year commitment to go to a foreign country and do whatever is needed. And Richard, it is in a way an occupation, but I think deserves special recognition, like the military.

Ahh, ok.  (I've never really investigated.  I thought you retained what you were, because how better to serve?!  I guess it's more like the military than I thought. cheeky)

I still think it is deserving of its own sticker.

What would the sticker look like? Per the branding guidelines of the Peace Corps the Peace Corps logos would not be usable.

What is the image URL for a file on disc?

Is something like:

what you are envisioning?

That's more like it. BTW, it is Corps, not Corp.

I would put it as Kenya, 2000-2003. Secondary Teacher.

Thanks.

OK. "Corps" fixed and changed the order and tweaked the text. Something like:

If we implement it, it would be used something like:

{{Peace Corps Volunteer | country=Kenya | country-flag=African_Flags-25.png | service=teacher | service-years=2000-2003}}

Right now, country flags aren't named by the country so would have to be looked up and added as a parameter.

Someone wishing to use the sticker would be the one to find and add the flag, yes?  (As we do for migration stickers.)

The sticker-text to add would be

{{Peace Corps Volunteer | country=(add country name)| country-flag=(add id for image)| service=(add role played)| service-years=(add years of service)}}

with the "bolded" bits being set and unalterable and my parentheticals being user added.

(I think it looks good, but I'm not Dave.)

Never mind, I figured it out myself.
Melanie, It looks good to me.

I'm working on finding three other volunteers to co-sponsor.
Just a couple of questions:

On the service field, is there a limit to the length of the answer? It would probably be a good idea.

Some volunteers served in more than one country, maybe because there was trouble in their original posting or for other reasons. It would only be fair to let them post two stickers, one for each country. Maybe a note should be appended to the sticker text explanation.
I think it possible limit text display length but haven't done that. It usually isn't a problem. Using multiple stickers would also not be a problem. If implemented, the help page will say that.
You can have more than one sticker to a profile (recommended to not exceed 5), and that they should be placed nearest to the relevant section of the biography.

If someone served more than once, or even in more than one area, there's no reason a sticker could not be placed at those points of the narrative/text.  (I'm presuming, here, that there will be a narrative biography .. or even a point by point one.)

If they served in multiple places (i.e. more than two), perhaps instead of a country map, a globe, or similar, would fit.  (I have no idea if WT has anywhere a blue-marble earth image, but I can check my images files.)
