Thanks - I saw the notification. There is another Wright with similar dates but who was in a very different social class (for want of a better description). These people (very unusual in my tree which is dominated by miners, sailors and farm labourers) were in the class that got themselves entered as "gentleman" on documents and "independent Means" in the occupation column of the census. Richard Wright took on the name Warren - Wright-Warren used for his children then the next generation switched back to Warren. I've got that pretty well documented (not all entered yet). What is missing is Richards background. There was a court case of inheritance but I can't find anything that confirms his parentage and the claimed line back to nobility. Could he have cooked up the whole thing? He does appear to have been a Colonel but nothing comes up in any of my searches beyond what is in the books I linked. I can't find any original sources. I have got more for my dirt poor agricultural labourers.
