Proving my father's DNA through Ancestry

I'm still trying to prove my father's DNA for the DataDoctors  and in the DNA (how to section) all I do is click  Ancestry DNA and his Ancestry profile appears.  What do I have to do to satisfy them.  Right at this time I have access to his computer should I need it because the info I received at an earlier date would not work, I now forgot where that was and I was thinking at that time I may need his computer to complete this task.

You can change the confidence level from "confirmed with DNA" to confident and the suggestion should go away.
J. Crook is correct. You need to make the change on your own profile, not on your father's. On your own 'edit' page, change the relationship to each of your parents from 'confirmed with DNA' to 'confident'.
Thanks for making that change, Judith. That should solve your problem with the Data Doctors suggestion.

Have you taken a DNA test?  Because if not, then you can't mark your parents as DNA-confirmed.  What that designation means is that your DNA is a close match to theirs, and without your test, there is no evidence.

The DataDoctors are asking for my fathers proof of DNA.

I feel there is no need for me to spend the money to take a DNA test when both my parents and one of my four brothers have their DNA results through Ancestry.  My birth certificate can be supplied if necessary.  I was their first born.
I completely agree that your test is unnecessary for tracing your ancestors.  But as far as I know, if you have not tested, you can't mark your parents as DNA-confirmed.  If other people disagree, I hope they will see this discussion and enlighten me.

I'm not sure what you mean by the Data Doctors asking.  Do you mean you have a suggestion?  What exactly does it say?

Update:  OK, I just looked at it.  It says "Missing father's DNA confirmation," and lists your profile and his.  For the reason I explained.

A simple autosomal test would do that

To quote: "Every time you mark a child's relationship to their parent as Confirmed with DNA you must add a source citation to the == Sources == section of the child's profile that explains how you made the DNA-confirmed conclusion."

This is what the Data Doctors are after.  A confirmation statement as well as the radio button you have marked.

So here is the problem.

Do you mean DNA confirmed to be that that you cannot utilize any other evidence, then that would be absolutely dead wrong by genetic genealogical standards?

Anywhere up the tree and the farther up the better with respect with a cross match - and all the documentary evidence  is a far better, practical approach - unless your family never moved anywhere and all were virtually baby farms and had a lot of money for testing.

Hi Judith

Since it is just on the horizon, I note that the first of two parts of a YDNA seminar is occurring Tuesday.

There can be issues about trying to match GD genetically with GD tree wise as we are learning more and more that there is quite a range of mutation speeds

Hope you might find this interesting particularly if there is a question period

Cheers

Lloyd
