Can someone remove Rachel (Merritt) Browning as a daughter of Alice Warren? [closed]

Hello,

I've asked project managers from both "daughter" [[Merritt-1318]] and "mother" Alice Warren [[Warren-1587]] to break this unsourced connection, and neither is able to do it, since Alice is Project Protected.

What is a project tag?  Can't find anything like that on the profile, other than it is protected.  It doesn't say by who.

One manager received this message

Sorry, you cannot remove this existing person as a family member because their profile is Project-Protected. If their parents need to be changed, post in G2G. Follow the link in the Collaboration section of the profile and add the project tag.

Merritt-1318 is not in a project.  Neither is Warren-1587, although the mother appears to be PPP.  I thought PPP wasn't appropriate for profiles not in projects.  Hopefully, someone who has an answer will see the ppp tag on the question and respond.

It looks like you have added adequate warnings to the daughter's profile that the connection may not be reliable.

Others have been questioning this relationship for quite some time.

Is there a way to remove PPP from this profile so we can get it cleaned up?  I thought the purpose of PPP was to protect a profile from being damaged, not keep it in a mediocre status for years.
Good point!  As I said, you've got the ppp tag on your question.

PPP removed.

Let me know when the detachment is done so I can put it back and add the right project.

Ok, that's done.  Thank you very much!

I may need you again soon.

Randall, do we need to protect both the former mother (Warren-1587) AND the inaccurate daughter (Merritt-1318)?

Are they likely to get incorrectly attached in the future? (typically when we do this, there is some sort of research note added to both affected profiles with links to the disputed profiles; I see no such note on either profile... yet.)

I don't think so.  Actually I'm not sure why Alice Warren or her father needs to be protected.  Both profiles need a lot of work and this PPP just gets in the way, in my opinion.

I guess I come from a little different perspective.  I've been an active Wikipedia editor for many years where they only lock highly controversial and contentious articles, and usually then only after all the issues have been pretty much resolved.  The editors are more free to just make changes.  Over time the articles naturally improve.
Okay. I'll leave that to you.

I'll just share my experience working in the colonial New England space. We protect many immigrant profiles because they are frequently subject to mis-attachment -- to erroneous parents, spouses and children. PPP prevents that from happening while allowing continued editing and improving of the profile itself.

Just know it's an option should you want it.
Thanks!
These things protect the few at the expense of the many.  How many fixes get left undone for years, because people contemplate the hassle and decide they're too busy?

Pestering Leaders to do stuff might be good for WikiTree (and the egos of the Leaders), but how many people feel it's not actually how they want to spend their time?  Why not just leave it and go and do something they can actually get on with instead?
RJ, I have no idea what you're talking about (what things protect the few at the expense of the many?), but you clearly feel strongly about it.

I don't feel pestered; as a project leader, I want to support folks like Randall who are working to make profiles accurate. It project protection helps do that, great.
