17th-18th century immigration, Denmark to England

Hello everyone,

In the midst of isolation, my grandmother came across some letters written to her mother (Ruby Goodwin, nee Hasler) by a cousin in regards to the Hasler family. Much of the information I've already discovered for myself, but in the letters Marlene posits that the name Hasler "comes from early Denmark", and after searching through English birth registrations believes that "the name Hasler was in England for 150 years before that I think they came from Copenhagen Denmark."

Marlene provides no sources for her Danish speculation. Working on her rough 150-year estimate, if there are Danish ancestors in my tree they would be, at minimum, either the father or grandfather of Thomas Hasler. Thomas' parents in his birth registration are James and Mary Hazler, with the FamilySearch profiles providing rough birth estimates and a maiden name for Mary (Brightwen) with no sources.

I haven't even the faintest idea of where to begin in researching Danish immigration to Britain to either confirm or deny this speculation. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

I have a copy of A Dictionary of English Surnames published by OUP. It cites an early example: “Robert de Heselhour” from 1221 in Warwickshire, and suggests the name is derived from places named Haselour (in Staffordshire), or Haselor in Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

There are 78  Haslers  on Freereg from registers of parishes within 13.4 miles of Great Waltham  The earliest is 1548 ; that's as early as the registers go. I'd stick with researching the locality.

I thought I'd check even earlier. There are no results for the name Hasler or Hassler on the English Immigrants 1300-1500 site https://www.englandsimmigrants.com/

On FamilySearch I entered last name Hasler and birthplace Denmark. There were a few Haslers born around Copenhagen in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Worth a look?
