Helen was born in 1853. She was the daughter of Gain Taylor and Elizabeth Reynolds. Helen grew up in the Portland area of the city of Saint John where her father was working in the lumber industry. She married John S. Brown in 1873 who was also a lumberman and rafter. Helen and John had five children. Her husband passed away in 1914 and Helen died much later, in 1937 at age 84.
