Biography

Daughter of Lieutenant Michael Smith and Francina Berry. Francina was first married to Michael Smith then to Major Thomas Lawrence. She was the daughter of Major John Berry. Mary Smith married at Hackensack on 1 February 1696, William Sandford, son of Major William Sandford and Sarah Whartman.^[1]Mary Smith's death is confirmed in the 1712 will of John Berry, which refers to two sons of his deceased granddaughter Mary (Smith) by William Sandford.^[2]
