Ebenezer Sanborn Jr is an NSSAR Patriot Ancestor. NSSAR Ancestor #: P-284122 Rank: Captain
According to the date on his headstone, Ebenezer was born October 25, 1745 and died on February 13, 1829 in New Hampshire.[1] He married Lydia Way in Haverhill, New Hampshire on January 22, 1772.[2] They were some of the earliest residents there, and Ebenezer was one of the "shoemakers of the settlement."[3]
Ebenezer served in the Revolutionary War in "Bedel's Company of Rangers."[4] He was a sargeant for six months in 1775 and reinlisted in 1778, serving for 13 months. He was then appointed "Commissary of Hides," a position he held until the war ended.[5] In 1798 (23 years later), the town of Haverhill voted to pay Captain Ebenezer Sanborn the sum of 10 pounds "for fetching 200 lbs. balls, 50 lbs. powder, and a quantity of flints from Exeter in 1775 for the use of the town."[6]
Ebenezer and Lydia had twelve children, born in both Haverhill and Bath, but only five were known to be alive in 1850. They moved to Lyman, New Hampshire in 1780 where they resided until Ebenezer's death at age 83.[5]
