Biography

Arthur was born 21 May 1896, in Manhattan, New York City. He was the son of Vaudeville performers Jacob Rosenwiek and his wife Clara, known professionally as Thomas O'Brien and Clara Havel. his mother died when he was eight years old, and he and his siblings grew up in the care of their grandmother and their father' sister.

In about 1910, Arthur's father had the family name legally changed to Havel.

After completing the 8th grade, Arthur left school and followed his parents footsteps into showbusiness. Initially, he preformed with an act called O'Brien, Havel, Kyle and Co., along with his father and an actress named Bessie Kyle. Later, he would team up with his younger brother for the comedy act, Arthur and Mort. the brother's performed primarily on stage through the 1930s and 1940s, and eventually did a few small films.

On 27 Apr 1924, Arthur married Mary Helene Lockhart, in Albany, New York. She was also an actress.

In 1940, Arthur was the owner of an oil station in Baldwin, Nassau, New York.

Arthur died 29 Mar 1965, at Angle Sea, Nassau, New York. he was buried at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, Nassau County, New York,
