About the Project

The Forsyth Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Forsyth name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Forsyth name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Forsyths), by time period (18th Century Forsyths), or by topic (Forsyth DNA, Forsyth Occupations, Forsyth Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

Also see the related surnames and surname variants.

I’ve read through the help pages and, though I’m not sure I’m ready to volunteer as a group coordinator, I’m happy to add the ONS sticker to the Canadian Forsyth profiles that I manage.

I do have a question, though. After reading the G2G discussion on including spouses, it seemed the general consensus there was “whatever the Name Study wants to do.” So I have to ask: Do we include wives of Forsyths? Also, I should note that the current WikiTree extension’s AutoBio will add the sticker to anyone with a Forsyth surname, whether or not it’s their LNAB.

Hi Katrina, Thanks for adding the sticker to your Canadian Forsyth's. I'm still learning about one name Studies and waiting for a response to some questions. I'm thinking of different projects, such as one for all Canadian Forsyths, one for Scotland Fosyths, and so on and so on. But all contained within the Forsyth one name Study.

My first thought is that we just add the sticker to those with the Birth Name Forsyth/e, but I didn't know what Auto Bio would add stickers like that. I think for now, I will leave the instructions to only put in on those with the Forsyth as their LNAB, but not worry if others get added automatically. Will see how it works out.

The main purpose right now for the project is to try to clean up all those without sources. If you can help with that, it would be wonderful. We may even be able to pull up an unsourced list from just Canada for you to work on.

I'd be happy to help track down some sources.
