George was born the 1st August 1890, the son of William David Mercer and Emily Ellen (Vincent) Mercer, and his birth was registered in the 3rd quarter 1890 in Islington, Middlesex, England.[1][2][3]
1891 Census on the 5th April 1891 George was living in Witherington Road, Islington, Middlesex with his parents William and Emily and his siblings Jean, Selina and Thomas.[4][5]
1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 George was living at 104 Sydney Road, Hornsey, Middlesex with his parents William and Emily and his siblings Jean, Selina, Thomas, Ruth and Leonard. Percy Williams who was 6 years old and Nora Williams who was 3, were living as visitors with their uncle and aunt.[6][7]
George performed with the Hannah Vincent Operatic Society, organised by his aunt Hannan Vincent.
George married Constance Frances Janet Stewart and the marriage was registered in the 3rd quarter 1915 in Edmonton, Middlesex.[8]
George served with the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles (Saskatchewan Regiment) in Belgium. Service No: 108379. Son of William David and Emily E. Mercer, of London; Husband of Constance F. J. Vincent (formerly Mercer), of 24, Elborough St., Southfields, Wandsworth, London, England. George was killed on active service on the 6th February 1916 at Ploegsteert, Arrondissement de Mouscron, Hainaut, Belgium and was buried at La Plus Douve Farm Military Cemetery, Ploegsteert, Arrondissement de Mouscron, Hainaut, Belgium. Probate of his estate (£5) was in London on the 12th August 1916 and passed to his widow Constance Frances Janet (Stewart) Mercer.[9][10]
George's widow Constance Frances Janet (Stewart) Mercer married Francis G. Vincent and the marriage was registered in the 1st quarter 1919 in Edmonton, Middlesex.[11]
