William was born September 6, 1868 in Harrison County, West Virginia, United States. He was the son of John McWhorter and Mary Curry. He passed away January 23, 1948 in West Virginia, United States.
He married Betty Dixon McCue on 21 April 1898, in Webster, West Virginia. TTheir children were John Bruce McWhorter (1899–1924), Egbert Ewing McWhorter (1900–1958), Martha Christine McWhorter (1902–1968), Mary Esther McWhorter (1904–Deceased), Alice Kyle McWhorter (1905–1967), Elizabeth A McWhorter (1907–2000), Margaret L McWhorter (1908–1910), William Paul McWhorter (1910–1989), Virginia P. McWhorter (1912–Deceased) and Helen Dixon McWhorter (1914–1992).
William passed away on 23 January 1948 in Lewis, West Virginia followed with burial at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia, United States.
