Biography

Maud was the daughter of William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke[1] and Isabel de Clare.

Along with four sisters, she eventually inherited one tenth of the Barony of Long Crendon from her father, who had held half of it.[2]

Maud married twice. Her first husband was Hugh le Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, who died in 1225.[1][3] They probably married before Lent 1207.[3] They had at least four children:

There may have been another son, William.[3]

Before 13 October 1225 Maud remarried, her second husband being William de Warenne, Earl of Surrey.[3] They had two children:

In July 1246 Maud inherited the office of Marshal after the death of her brother Anselm.[6]

Maud died on 27 or 29 Match 1248.[3] She was buried at Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire.[7]

Marshal-3 and Marshal-187 appear to represent the same person because: Both are of Maud Marshal, wife of Hugh Bigod
