Edwin Eugene Lockhart (better known as Gene Lockhard) was the son of John Coates Lockhart and Ellen Mary Delaney. He was born on 18 July 1891 in Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada.^[1] He was baptized on 2 August 1891 in London, Ontario, Canada.^[2] He is the father of actress June Lockhart.

He was a Canadian American actor and a Canadian professional football player with the Toronto Argonauts. His acting roles included playing Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol in 1938 and the judge in Miracle on 34th Street in 1947.

He died on 31 Mar 1957 in Santa Monica, California at age 65.^[3] He is buried in Culver City, Los Angeles County, California, United States.^[4]
