Asa Lawrence was a Captain in the American Revolution, leading a company of minute men on the alarm of April 19, 1775, serving in Col. William Prescott's 9th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment, Col. Jonathan Reed's 6th Middlesex County Regiment of Massachusetts Militia and in Col. Poor's regiment. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]

Asa Lawrence was born on June 14, 1737 in Groton, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay. His parents were Peleg Lawrence and Ruth Brown. [8] [9]

He married Abigail King daughter of Richard and Elizabeth King of Littleton, Massachusetts, July 27, 1758 at Littleton. [10] [9]

Together they had these children:

  1. Elizabeth Lawrence, bp. Pepperell, 1761.
  2. Rowland Lawrence, b. 1762.
  3. Ephraim Lawrence, b. 1765.
  4. Abigail Lawrence, b. 1767.
  5. Asa Lawrence, b. 1770.
  6. Diadema Lawrence, bp. at Groton, Aug. 30, 1772,[8] d. Oct. 17, 1778.[8][9]
  7. Philomela Lawrence, bp. at Groton, Jan. 1, 1775,[8] d. Aug. 18, 1775.[8][9]
  8. Horatio Lawrence, b. 1778, d. Oct. 28, 1778, age 4m, 16d.[8][9]


He died on January 16, 1804 in Groton.

The Bronze Plaque Reads:

Captain Asa Lawrence Capt. Company G, Groton Minute Men April 19, 1775 Captain in Colonel William Prescott's Regiment at Bunker Hill

His widow, Abigail King died June 1829 at Claremont, New Hampshire where she resided with her daughter Agigail, wife of Jacob Dimond. She is buried at Broad Street Cemetery (behind the library) at Claremont, NH.

Asa is a descendant of immigrant John Lawrence who came to Colonial America about 1630: (Asa, Peleg, Eleazer, Peleg, John).
