Research Notes
1841 Census In the 1841 England Census "Louisa King" can be found age 25 years old, residing in Chelsea, Middlesex. [2] Louisa King 1841 England Census Birth: abt 1816 Middlesex, England Residence: Park Place South, Chelsea, Middlesex, England. Civil Parish: Chelsea Hundred: Ossulstone (Kensington Division) County: Middlesex Registration District: Kensington. Sub Registration District: Chelsea North West. The 1841 Census was taken on 6th June when Louisa would have been 26 years old (and not 25 as recorded on the census). However, Administration of the census was such that "Children under 15 were to have their age recorded accurately, while those over 15 were to be rounded down to the nearest 5 years so, for example, someone aged 63 should be recorded as aged 60." [3][4] This explains why Louisa's age was rounded down to 25 years of age. Also "The 1841 census recorded people's names, age, sex, occupation, and if they were born in the county of their residence" [3][4]
Fanny Finch is cited as being "born Louisa King in London in April 1815" [5][6][7]. For this to have been the case, Fanny was baptised twice. Once on 7th May 1815, at St Marylebone Parish (as Louisa King), and then 2 weeks later on 20th May 1815 at the nearby London Foundling Hospital, (2.9 kms away) [8] when she was given a new name, Frances Combe aka Fanny Finch who died on 15th October 1863.
