Father of General Sam Houston

He was born about 1745 and died 1807. While absent from home on an inspection tour, Samuel Houston died at Dennis Callighan's, a friendly tavern house, on the 'New Road' to Kentucky. He was buried in the High Bridge Church yard, near the elaborate mansion of his cousin Matthew Houston.

After his death, Elizabeth moved her family to Tennessee in the spring of 1807. Samuel was a Captain in Morgan's Rifle Brigade, Continental Army, Virginia. Continued in service and after the war as Brigadier Inspector in Virginia Militia and advanced to rank of Major. They lived on the Timber Ridge plantation, Rockbridge Co., Virginia, until the death of Samuel. Samuel was married in 1783 to Elizabeth Blair Paxton (daughter of John Paxton of Rockbridge Co., Virginia). She was born about 1765 and died August 1831. They had 9 children.[1]

Houston-2 and Houston-4008 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, wife, and family lineage, several duplicates to merge

While there are "family lore" about a son named Preston, after much research I have found no references to a son named Preston.

Houston-1541 and Houston-2 appear to represent the same person because: based on wife and mother's name, I believe these are intended to be the same person. Please provide the primary sources for the birth and death dates, as all of the resources at the Samuel Houston site have never indicated specific dates. I hope that you have data for specific dates and we can share with the museum...
