Robert Hammack was christened on October 17, 1737 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond, Virginia. He was the son of Robert Hammack / Hammock and Ann [1] Lambert.[2]
He married Millenor Jackson in 1764. They had 12 children together. They stayed in Virginia until shortly after November 1773. They then travelled south and settled in Wilkes County, Georgia.[2]
Robert fought for Georgia with the 'Georgia Refugees' Militia Regiment in the American Revolution. [3] During the Revolution, Robert's family was attacked by the Tories.[2]
After the Revolution, Robert received multiple land grants in Wilkes County. He first received a grant for 200 acres on Hardin's Creek on July 12, 1784. On September 10, 1784, he received 200 more acres of land. In the summer of 1785, he received 558 acres of land on Hardin's Creek. [2][4][5]

William Hammock (1623-ca. 1701) was born at Ermingshire Parish, Devon, England. He immigrated to America in 1656 and settled in Northhampton County, Virginia. He and his wife, Alice, had three children. His great grandson, Robert Hammock (1737-1800), a soldier in the Georgia Militia, was born in Richmond County, Virginia, the son of Robert Hammock (ca. 1703-1786/7) and Ann Lambert Hammock (ca. 1710-after 1787). He and his wife, Milenor Ann Jackson (ca. 1737-ca. 1832), had six sons and six daughters. Robert died in Wilkes County, Georgia. His widow died in Jones County, Georgia. His grandson, Hope Hull Hammock (1806-187- ), married Martha Ann McCrary in 1830 in Talbot County, Georgia. They had two children, 1831-1834. Descendants listed lived in Georgia, Florida, Texas and elsewhere. The surname is also spelled Hammack.
