Biography

I accepted this merge because I do believe it is the same man. My family records say his birth year was 1743 or 1753. The DAR records say CIRCA 1756, but I can accept 1756 because I cannot connect this line back through the generations. I have added below what I know. - Jayne Peace Pyle

Research Notes

-- Reconsider birth year based upon data for father. Hale-843 to be merged with Haile-73, resulting in Nicholas Jr., John, this John. edited date of birth to circa 1756, iaw DAR Ancestor #A049259 records. jg August 3, 2020
-- While this could be a duplicate of, maybe not the same as Haile-73, with only the birth date a copy. Changed to just year. Review after all the John Haile(s) on WikiTree are verified.

My 2-g-grandfather was Stephen Marion Hale b. 1813 VA; his father was John Hale 3rd b. 1770, his grandfather was John Hale Jr b. 1753, and his great-grandfather was John H. Hale Sr b. 1706, according to my Peace- Hale Family Book. I'm not sure if the suffix Jr and 3rd were given to them at birth, or if the suffixes were added later so all understood which John Hale was being referred to- Jayne Peace Pyle

John Hale 3rd (1770-1818) married his cousin, Mary Hale (1778-1845), daughter of Lewis Hale (1743-1802) and Mary Burwell (1744-1809).

John Hale Jr (1753-1838) married Mary Willis (1758-1821), daughter of Joseph S. Willis and Hannah I. Robbins. Marriage year and place was 1773 Botetourt, VA.

John Hale Sr. (1706-1798) married Elizabeth Prescott. He was a Colonel during the American Revolutionary War. Elizabeth was the daughter of Benjamin Prescott and Abigail Oliver.

All of these Hales were of Virginia, and according to my family records were among the very first settlers of Virginia. And, according to family records, I have three Hale grandfathers in a generational row named John Hale and two of them married women named Mary. -Jayne Peace Pyle

Children of John Hale Jr (1756-1838) and Mary Willis (1758-1821):

1) John Hale 3rd 1772-1818 (which makes John Jr a 16-yr-old father is why I thought born 1753 was correct- Jayne Peace Pyle)

2) Levi Hale 1774-1825

3) Rhoda Hale Scott 1775-1830

4) Hannah Hale Dunn 1776-1830

5) Jobe Hale 1777-1871

6) Joseph Hale 1782-1850

7) Thomas Hale 1787-1870

8) Rebecca Elizabeth Hale 1788-1852

9) Cassandra Hale Divine 1792-1858

10) Abigail Hale Huff 1795-1857

11) John Willis Hale 1798-1875

They named 2 sons John, but they are 26 years apart. John born 1772 was probably long gone by the time the second John was born.

The above names and dates is from my Ancestry.com account. -Jayne Peace Pyle

Hale-12626 and Hale-872 appear to represent the same person because: These two are duplicates and need to be merged. Please approve and merge.

Hale-8400 and Hale-872 appear to represent the same person because: Same person, same wife. Fathers require merging, first

The Kentucky Will might list all of the children.

Haile-73 and Hale-872 do not represent the same person because: Corrected estimated birth date for Hale-872 and left placement as son of Hale-843. Hale-843 (a gedcom) is a duplicate of Haile-73.

Turns out, looks like this one, Hale-8400 created 5 Oct 2019 by Janis, then stripped & abandoned--is the same person as Hale-872. The other one, Hale-872, also seems to be an "empty" profile, that was created by gedcom import, 3 Aug 2011. There may also be other duplicate profiles? I didn't check real thoroughly, etc. (supposed parents of a Huff spouse; personally, I would not have input as a new profile at all). There seem to be a bunch of duplicate (or more?!) profiles, and lots of still empty ones from gedcom import as far back as 2011. Seems like this must be a complicated and tough to sort out family!

May be of the Bent Mountain, Franklin County, or Botetourt County area Hales. Who apparently located to Mercer Co.,, KY ca the 1780s? Would appreciate any Hale participants taking this over. I understand the s/w Virginia Hales can be tough to sort out...lots of Johns and Josephs etc.! The previous profile manager decided to strip all info before abandoning the John Hale's (Sr. & Jr.?) profiles, apparently feeling she was being hounded by emails; I think there were like 3 Message Board postings; guess she was offended also seeing them arrive as email messages?

I have removed myself as Profile Manager. I will no linger be involved in HUFF family except thru Joseph Line. I do not need rude messages constantly being sent. Use you time more wisely! Thanks

Note: Place of birth cannot be accurate as Botetourt County did not exist in 1750. It was founded in 1770.

Use with caution until/unless authoritative primary sources become available. Personal family trees and internet postings are not considered proper "sources" in WikiTree. They really should not be cited at all in WikiTree...but sometimes seems like that's all there is to go on, and it's a start at least! Unsourced family trees are often terribly inaccurate "copycat genealogy"... hearsay at best, that have no sources backing them up. If there were actually sources somewhere, they could be checked and then cited. Anybody has "real sources," please make yourself known and contribute! :-) P.S. I couldn't access the Mercer Co. will cited... does that do it? What parts of this profile might it substantiate? Thanks!!

Hale-2885 and Hale-872 appear to represent the same person because: With same daughter & son in law, these profiles should be merged with variation in birth year noted in the BIOS
