I accepted this merge because I do believe it is the same man. My family records say his birth year was 1743 or 1753. The DAR records say CIRCA 1756, but I can accept 1756 because I cannot connect this line back through the generations. I have added below what I know. - Jayne Peace Pyle
John Hale was born about 1756 and died before July 7, 1798, in Mercer county, Kentucky. [1]
During the American Revolutionary War, John enlisted in Captain Looney's company, in Botetourt county Virginia Militia. John also furnished supplies in support of the Patriots during the War. [2]
John is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as Ancestor #A049259. DAR records indicate that his wife's name was Mary Willis. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, Levi Hale, who married Catherine Tucker and of their daughter Rebecca Hale, who married John McIntire. [2] [3] [4]
John made a Will 7 Mar 1798, then died before July 1798, when his Will was entered into Probate, in Mercer County, Kentucky, USA. The Executor was Jesse Hale. [5]
Jesse Hale, executor of John Hale, deceased (1798 Will), 14 June 1804, Mercer County, Kentucky.

My 2-g-grandfather was Stephen Marion Hale b. 1813 VA; his father was John Hale 3rd b. 1770, his grandfather was John Hale Jr b. 1753, and his great-grandfather was John H. Hale Sr b. 1706, according to my Peace- Hale Family Book. I'm not sure if the suffix Jr and 3rd were given to them at birth, or if the suffixes were added later so all understood which John Hale was being referred to- Jayne Peace Pyle
John Hale 3rd (1770-1818) married his cousin, Mary Hale (1778-1845), daughter of Lewis Hale (1743-1802) and Mary Burwell (1744-1809).
John Hale Jr (1753-1838) married Mary Willis (1758-1821), daughter of Joseph S. Willis and Hannah I. Robbins. Marriage year and place was 1773 Botetourt, VA.
John Hale Sr. (1706-1798) married Elizabeth Prescott. He was a Colonel during the American Revolutionary War. Elizabeth was the daughter of Benjamin Prescott and Abigail Oliver.
All of these Hales were of Virginia, and according to my family records were among the very first settlers of Virginia. And, according to family records, I have three Hale grandfathers in a generational row named John Hale and two of them married women named Mary. -Jayne Peace Pyle
Children of John Hale Jr (1756-1838) and Mary Willis (1758-1821):
1) John Hale 3rd 1772-1818 (which makes John Jr a 16-yr-old father is why I thought born 1753 was correct- Jayne Peace Pyle)
2) Levi Hale 1774-1825
3) Rhoda Hale Scott 1775-1830
4) Hannah Hale Dunn 1776-1830
5) Jobe Hale 1777-1871

10) Abigail Hale Huff 1795-1857

They named 2 sons John, but they are 26 years apart. John born 1772 was probably long gone by the time the second John was born.
