John Gray is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A047632.

John Gray, the son of Andrew Gray of Harwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, and Phebe Chandler Gray of Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts, was born 27 November 1732 in Cumberland, Maine.^[1][2]

In the American Revolution, John Gray commanded a company in Col. Jonathan Mitchell's regiment of Massachusetts militia in the Penobscot Expedition, 1779. ^[3]

John married Sarah Mitchell on 02 November 1755 in North Yarmouth, Cumberland County, Maine.^[4]

Sarah and John had 13 children:

3. Jonathan Gray was born before 23 March 1760;
4. Jane Gray was born on 23 November 1761;

13. Olive Gray was born on 25 May 1779.

All the children were born in North Yarmouth, Cumberland, Maine.

The 1790 census of Cumberland lists John Gray at Number 4 Plantation.^[5]

Capt John Gray died 27 January 1797 in Maine; however, his church record has 28 December 1796, age 65.^[6]
