Biography

This John Grant was born 3 Feb 1798, the third child of Anna (Breed) & Gilbert Grant of North Stonington, Connecticut ^[1],^[2].

He married 26 Sep 1826 at North Stonington, Connecticut, Ann Wheeler Ayer ^[3],^[4]. They were married by Rev. Joseph Ayer, Jr. They had one child:

• John Sands Grant, b. 14 Aug 1827 (or '28); d. 31 May 1900 ^[5]

This family relocated to Griswold, Connecticut, in 1838, then in 1840 to Hanover, Connecticut. Census records of 1850 and 1860 recorded this family in Lisbon, Connecticut ^[6],^[7].

John Grant was a farmer; selectman of Lisbon, Connecticut, for several years; tax assessor and collector.

John Grant died 22 Nov 1874 @ Sprague, Connecticut ^[8]. His grave is in New Hanover Cemetery, Hanover, New London County, Connecticut, USA ^[9].

Note: Ostensible marriage of this John Grant to any other spouse should be considered undocumented and specious until primary source is identified. The 1850 and 1860 census records list only Ann W. Grant still in the household of this John Grant. No one named Louisa appears in these census records, thus there continues to be no evidence that this John Grant was married to anyone other than Ann Wheeler (Ayer). The currently identified spouse, Ann Wheeler Ayer, is the only one listed in the Grant genealogy, and she outlived him.

Note: The cited F-A-G memorial site attaches a different spousal relationship to [[[White-27169|Louisa (White; 1812-1874)]], married 1837], of Hampshire County, Massachusetts, who died and was buried there. Relevance of the F-A-G site for Louisa White ^[10] to this John Grant, of New London County, Connecticut, who died and was buried there, is unlikely.
