Samuel Files was born on 4 August 1759 in Gorham, Maine. His parents were William Files and Joanna (More) Files^[1].

He married Esther Thomes on 28 September 1780 in Gorham^[2]. They had ten children^[3]:

Wages as Corporal: 22 pounds per month^[5].
