William was born in 1761. He passed away in 1834.
He served in Captain Alexander McLellan's Company and Captain Jonathan Andrew's Company during the Revolution; later received a pension for his service. (Certificate #S-29796, Rev. War Pension, National Archives). "William Files, Private, Captain Alexander McClellan's Company (should read "McLellan"), Colonel Jonathan Mitchel's Regiment; enlisted July 7, 1779; discharged September 25, 1779; service 2 months, 18 days on Penobscot expedition Roll dated Gorham." "William Files, Private, Captain Jonathan Andrew's Company, Colonel Joseph Prime's Regiment; enlisted May 8, 1780; discharged December 31,1780; service 7 months, 24 days, under Brig. General P.
