Biography

Nathaniel was born in 1752 in Norwich, Connecticut Colony, British Colonial America, the son of Capt. Nathaniel Fales I and Sarah Badger.[1] In 1769, the Fales family relocated to the area that became Thomaston, Knox County, Maine. Nathaniel remained in the area for his entire life.[2]

During the Revolutionary War, Nathaniel is recognized as having served in the Penobscot campaign from 6 Jul 1779 to 26 Aug 1779.[3][4][5] Other records attribute this service to his father, Captain Nathaniel. Captain Nathaniel was credited for protecting the ports from privateers in earlier times.[6]

Nathaniel Fales married Zilpha Robbins in December of 1781. The ceremony was performed by Mason Wheaton, Esq. and the couple resided in Thomaston, Maine.[7] Nathaniel's family and the Robbins family were Thomaston pioneers and had adjoining lots. Nathaniel and his wife were among the first to join the Methodist Church in Thomaston.[8]

The Fales family consisted of one male over 16, one male under 16 and 4 females in 1790.[9] By 1800, the family included one male age 10-15 and one over age 45 (Nathaniel), two females under age 10, two aged 10-15, one aged 16-25 and one aged 45 and over (Zilpha).[10] In 1810, the family, still in Thomaston, Maine, included two males aged 16-25 and one male over age 45 (Nathaniel), one female under age 10, one aged 16-25 and one over age 45 (Zilpha). Nathaniel's son, now referred to as Nathaniel Fales, Jr., is the next entry in the census.[11]

Nathaniel died on 19 Jun 1834 and is buried in Section 2, Lot 227 of the Thomaston Cemetery.[12]
