According to one source, Nathaniel married Sarah Badger on 18 May 1749 in Norwich, Connecticut. The couple had at least seven children.[2]
It is possible that it is this Nathaniel Fales who served as clerk for his Great Uncle Eliphalet Fales in the Crown Point Campaign in 1755. In those records he was noted to be from Littleton.[3]
Captain Fales moved to Thomaston, ME from Bradford, MA in October of 1769.[4] Capt. Fales assisted in protecting the coast and islands of Penobscot Bay from privateers in 1779 (the Penobscot Expedition).[5] His tour of duty was 6 Jul to 26 Aug. [6] He assisted in 1784 with the establishment of a fishing treaty[7] and other community issues. He became a carpenter and built houses in Thomaston, including one which was used for town meetings from 1787 to 1792.[8]. The elder Fales' family is noted in the 1790 census of Thomaston Town to consist of two males over 16, one male under sixteen, and six females.[9] Capt. Fales had a premonition of his death, reporting a dream in which his body had been laid in the grave, but not covered up until the pall bearers could bring another to the cemetery. In fact, he was buried the same day as another Maine pioneer, Judith Stackpole, under circumstances very similar to his dream. He was buried on the Lovett lot.[10]
Captain Nathaniel was born in 1727. He passed away in 1797.
