David, seventh son of Joseph Drinkwater and Janet Latham, was born in 1751 in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. Although records list his birth place as Maine, there was no Maine until 1760.

Like his grandfather, father, and brothers, David was a Sea Captain.

He lived at North Yarmouth Maine. He lived and died in the old Gray house, now standing near Charles W. Mitchell's. He is also given as a resident of Portland, Maine.
