Biography

The son of Dutton Davis and Sarah (Wilson) Davis, Winfred Davis was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky[citation needed] in 1888, residing with his family in 1900 in Sloans Valley, Kentucky.[1][2]

He married Catherine Boyer (1895-1961), marrying around 1912 and having one known son together, Frederick Davis (1913-1934). Winfred registered for the World War I draft when he was 28, registering in Altoona, Alabama on June 5, 1917.[3] He stated that he lived in Altoona and that he worked as a miner for Gulf States Steel Company. He noted on his registration that he was "dificient" in one ankle, and did not enlist.

Winfred and his family made their home in Floyd County, Kentucky,[4] where he worked as a coal miner. By 1930, living in Wayland, Kentucky, Winfred at the coal mine as a shift foreman.[5] Their son passed away in 1934 and, in 1940, Winfred and his wife lived in Garrett Township, Kentucky.[6]

Winfred registered for the World War I draft when he was 53, registering in Cumberland, Kentucky on April 27, 1942.[7] He stated that he lived in Cumberland, Kentucky and that he worked for U.S. Coal and Coke Company in Lynch, Kentucky. Winfred was described as 5'7½" tall and 155 pounds with black hair and blue eyes; having registered in the "old man's draft," he did not enlist.

Widowed in 1961, Winfred remarried, marrying Dollie Ruth Bolin (1931-1998), the daughter of Benjamin Harrison Bolin and Emma Myrtle Keith, marrying around 1962.[citation needed] Winfred Davis passed away in Parkers Lake Kentucky[8] at the age of 77 and is buried Walkers Chapel Cemetery in McCreary County, Kentucky.[9]

Davis-103183 and Davis-70575 appear to represent the same person because: Birth years are exactly 2 years apart, otherwise a good match.
