James Boyd,[1] born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, on 03 May 1732, was the 10th child of Robert Boyd of Kilmarnock, a glover, and his wife Margaret Thomson, the daughter of a bonnet maker.[2]
James went to America with a patent from George II for 60,000 acres in New Brunswick. During the Revolution he sided with the colonists and so forfeited his grant.[1] He married Susannah Coffin on 11 August 1757 in Newbury, Massachusetts.[3] She was the daughter of Colonel Joseph Coffin of Newburyport.
James died on 30 September 1798 aged 64 years, and was buried in the First Parish Burying ground, also known as the Old Town Cemetery, in Newbury.[4][5]
