Biography

Birth

William Polk Bloom was born in Clinton County, Ohio, on 9 Sep 1849, the son of Aaron Bloom and Martha Ann (Polk) Bloom.[1] In 1850, he was living with his parents at Richland Township in Clinton County at the age of 10 months.[2] In 1860, he ws living with his widowed mother and his siblings at Washington Township in Blackford County, Ohio.[3]
In 1870, William P. Bloom, 20, was living with the families of his brothers-in-law, Samuel Cecil and John H. Cecil, and his sisters, Armelia (Bloom) Cecil and Catherine (Bloom) Cecil, at Muncie, Indiana, and was working as a railroad laborer. Also living in the household and working as a domestic servant for Samuel Cecil was 20-year-old Jennie Landis (sic), who was to become William P. Bloom's second wife.[4]

  1. William Polk Bloom married Sarah S. Edens in Blackford County, Indiana, on 17 Sep 1871.[5] The grave marker of Sarah S. in the Bloom family plot at the Beech Grove Cemetery in Muncie, Indiana, is inscribed with the dates 1852-1872, but her FindAGrave memorial (citing no sources) says that she died on 22 Feb 1874.[6]
  2. William Polk Bloom and Catharine J. Landess were issued a marriage license in Delaware County, Indiana, on 10 May 1875, and they married there on the same day.[7] In 1880, they were living in Mt. Bloom, 1, and three boarders, and William's occupation is given as a sawyer.[8] The William Bloom family moved from Indiana to Springfield, Missouri, where William owned a small sawmill.[9] The move took place sometime between the birth of their son Landess Bloom in Indiana in April, 1884 and May 1887, when their daughter Ella May Bloom was born in Missouri.
