Maternal line mitochondrial DNA test-takers:
Please explain source of middle initial. It does not appear on the scant few records that I can find.
I have found a John Allen in WOODFORD County Kentucky. He appears on the US Fed censuses from 1810-1840. The 1840 has him as JOHN V ALLEN. The 1830 has nmi. Nor does the 1820. The 1810 indicates 4 children under 10 and 3 bet 10 and 15. Not counting farm labor I would assume they were his children.
I am fairly confident this is the correct John Allen. In a publication detailing the history of the area he and his wife named Alice McKay and mentioned in conjunction with their daughter’s marriage to HENRY CRENSHAW. It also confirms the deaths of John and Alice.
I found the publication on ancestry hence I cannot link it but the title is Bourbon, Harrison, Nicholas and Scott Counties and the page I refer to is 619. The volume can be downloaded for free as a pdf from archive.org
