1776 Project
Private Isaac Acree Sr. served with Granville County Regiment, North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

Isaac Acree Sr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A207085.

Isaac was born about 1735.

In the September 1755 Court session of Granville County, North Carolina is found a case for Isaac Acrey v. William Jordan for a debt.[1]

On 31 May 1756 Isaac Acree sold to Wiliam Acree for ten pounds, 200 acres being part of a 640 acre grant to Isaac located on the south side of Six Pound Creek and Sherin's and Walker's lines in Granville County, North Carolina.[2][3]

On 13 May 1768 in Butte County, North Carolina Court, Isaac Acree made oath to his attendance as a witness against William Shearin at the suit of William Black amounting to ten shillings, ten pence.[4]

On 16 Nov 1768 William and Isaac Acree gave oath in Butte County, North Carolina proving a deed of sale by William and Elizabeth Ellis to Charles Darnell that they had witnessed.[4]

On 09 Feb 1770 in Butte County, North Carolina court, Isaac and William Acree witnessed the deed of William Ellis to Charles Darnald both of Bute County, North Carolina.[5]

On 15 Feb 1770 the Butte County, North Carolina Court ordered that the following hands to wit, the hands of Charles Kimball, Charles White, James Phillips, John Shearing, Isaac Acre, William Acre, John Colclough, and William Colclough work on the road whereof John Moseley is Overseer and to assist him in clearing and keeping the said road in repair.[4]

Isaac was a Patriot during the Revolutionary War, he and William Acree took an Oath of Allegiance in 1775-6, from Captain Colclough's district (Oaths were taken by Captain James Paine, J.P.) in Btute County, North Carolina.[6][7]

On 14 Aug 1778 in Butte County, North Carolina, Wiliam Durham entered 50 acres adjoining Isaac Acree, Ann Hays, Thomas Harthorn and John Alston Fennings that was marked disputed and stricken from the record.[8]

On 12 May 1780 in the court of Warren County, North Carolina it was ordered that James Paine, Esq, take the list of assignment in Captain Colclough's District and that Isaac Acree, Constable, summon the inhabitants to give in a list o their assessable property to him.[9]

He is found on the tax lists of Warren County, North Carolina for every year from 1779 to 1790 with a note in 1787 for an insolvent allowance.[10]

Aug. 16 , 1783, Isaac was to be paid three pounds, and four shillings for service as Constable.[11]

Isaac appears on the 1790 census of Warren County, North Carolina with the following household members:

Feb. 1791, Isaac was chosen by Mary Colclough , as gardian.She was the orphan of William Colclough.[14]

Isaac Acree Sr. paid, as constable Bond for 500 pds. From Gov. Benjamin Williams,sec. Jesse Mosley ,Witt: William Robards.Feb.24,1802, Warren County, North Carolina. [15]

May 29,1801,Isaac Acree Senior takes in an apprentices by the name of John ( age 16) and James Jeffers( age 17) by William Johnson,to be taught art & calling of Planter ect. [16]

14 Jan. 1805; Nov. Ct. 1804. ISAAC ACREE, Sr. Gdn. to ISAAC ACREE, Jr. , Lunatic. Bond for 500 Pds. to THOMAS CHRISTMAS, JACOB MORDECAI & HENRY FITTS, Justices Co. Ct. P&QS. Sec: ABRAHAM ACREE. "Executed before MARMADUKE JOHNSON. "[17]

By 1810 his wife has apparently died and Isaac appears on the Warren County, North Carolina census of that year with the following household members:

Isaac died about 1819 in Warren County, North Carolina.[19]

In the name of God Amen I Isaac Acree of Warren County and State of North Carolina being weak in body though perfect in mind & memory and knowing it is once appointed for all men to die do make ordain, constitute and appoint this my last will and Testament in manner and form as follows, viz, I recommend my soul to God that gave it I give my body to the Earth from whence it came to decently buried at the discretion of my Executors here after named.

Item. I lend unto my son Joshua Acree two Negro men, Jim and Will, during his natural life and at his death to be equal divided between the children of his wife Lidia to them & there heirs for ever.

Item. I give unto my son Abraham Acree two Negroes by the name of Moses & Jack also one year old filley to him and his heirs for ever.

Item. I give unto daughter Patty Baxter three Negroes Dinah, Tom & Willis to her and her heirs for ever. I also lend to her during her natural life fifty acres of land part of the tract whereon I now live adjoining the lands of Burewll Horton and Thomas Bell.

Item. I give unto my daughter Polly Jeffers, two Negroes, Easter and her child by the name of Green to her and her heirs for ever.

Item. I give all my land to be equally divided between my two sons Joshua & Abraham reserving to my daughter Patty Baxter the fifty acres heretofore named to them and their heirs forever the balance of my property to be sold and all my just debts to be paid and should there remain any monies to be equally divided between my four children heretofore named. I nominate and appoint to this my last will Daniel Shearin & Roderick Bigelow.

Signed 25 Jul 1814 by Isaac Acree and proved in open court February 1820, Warren County, North Carolina on oath of Daniel Shearin.[19][20]
