Robert Abernathy born 1742 has many references in Rev William Lander Sherrill's, The Annals of Lincoln County. Perhaps the most important reference to this profile is one that appeared in the Lincoln Times newspaper during 1937, Installment XIII at the left.

Reverend Sherrill states the the Robert Abernathy who represented Tryon County of North Carolina Colony at the Provincial Congress of North Carolina during December 1776, married Sarah Nichols, June 23, 1783, the year being actually 1788. Image
The document for the marriage is actually a Marriage Bond dated June 23, 1788, but no matter if the year was 1783 or 1788, this Robert Abernathy is the one that married Sarah Nichols as a second wife. The Reverend Sherrill's The Annals of Lincoln County also states it is this Robert that is the Grandfather of the educator Dr Robert Laban Abernathy, founder of Rutherford College.

Abernathy-421 and Abernathy-242 appear to represent the same person because: same daughter

Abernathy-421 and Abernathy-242 do not represent the same person because: There is too much conflicting information. This could be two different men .

More research needs to be done before merging. 1. Birth dates 2. Parents

Abernathy-421 and Abernathy-242 are not ready to be merged because: There are some aspects of these biographies which match, and others which do not, including the date of birth, a discrepancy of 8 years, and the place of death.

Abernathy-421 and Abernathy-242 do not represent the same person because: Siblings and children don't match. Birth dates are not alike. Too much dissimilarity to merge; even the profiles themselves, admit there are other profiles that are similar, that shouldn't be matched. That includes both of these to each other.
Ugh, I hate to add another monkey wrench into the mix but I also found another Anna Nance to add to the list while trying to get the 1776 sticker up to date. Anna Nance She has parents but just a birth document. May want to grab that and verify if she is the same or different as well to help others.
