Biography

ISAAC ABBOTT, b. at Concord, 3 Aug 1793 son of Benjamin Abbot and Sarah Brown;^[1] d. at Lancaster, NH, 12 Nov 1840;^[2] m. at Goffstown, 7 May 1817 (or 1819),^[3] SUSAN ELA, b. at Hooksett, 7 Jan 1797 daughter of Israel and Zebiah (Martin) Ela.^[4] Susan was living in 1880 when she was in the home of her daughter Fanny and her husband Leonard Beard.^[5]

Isaac was a carpenter and farmer.^[6] Isaac and Susan started their family in Hartland, Vermont, were then in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, and finally in Lancaster, New Hampshire. Isaac Abbott and Susan Ela were parents of thirteen children with two sets of twins.^[7]

The family was enumerated at Kilkenny, Coos County in 1830 with a household of ten persons: one male 30 to 39, one female 30 to 39, two males under 5, one male 5 to 9, one male 10 to 14, three females under 5, and one female 5 to 9.^[8] Isaac was named postmaster at White Mountain, Coos County on 6 March 1837.^[9]

In 1850, Susan was head of household at Lancaster with children Sarah, Mary O., John E., Esther T., William N., Elizabeth P. and Fannatt (Fanny) in the home.^[10]

ABBOT, b. at Hartland, VT, 11 Aug 1819; d. at Chattanooga, TN, 16 Apr 1892;^[11] m. at Lancaster, Apr 1846, SUSAN JANE JONES, b. about 1828 daughter of Clark and Susan (Brown) Jones; Susan d. at Boston, 8 Oct 1915. Roderick had gone to Chattanooga with his son Lloyd, and they had a carpenter/brick mason business there and are listed in the 1891 city directory at Chattanooga.^[12]
