Joshua Abbott was born on February 24, 1740 in Concord (Rumford), Rockingham, New Hampshire.^[1] His parents were Nathaniel Abbot and Penelope Ballard.^[1]

He served as a Captain 1st New Hampshire Regiment in 1775, 5th Continental Infantry 1776, Militia 1777. ^{[2][3] [4][5]}

He married Elizabeth Chandler on October 23, 1766^[6] The children of Joshua and Elizabeth Abbott were:

2. Betsy Abbott, b. 06 Aug 1773^[9][10], m. Jacob Abbot^[4][11]

He died on 12 March 1815 in Concord, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States^[4][5]. He lies buried in the Old North Cemetery in Concord, Merrimack (formerly Rockingham) County, New Hampshire^[15]

Joshua Abbot wrote his will 3 March 1815 at Concord. The will includes bequests to the following persons: daughter Betsey Abbot of Hallowell, daughter Sally Dummer who is in Hallowell, son Joshua Abbot of Concord, granddaughter Elizabeth Chandler Abbot, granddaughter Mary Faulkner Abbot, grandson Thomas Faulkner Abbot, grandson John Sullivan Abbot, and son Nathaniel Abbot of Concord. Son Nathaniel Abbot is named executor of the estate.^[16]

I don't know for sure if he is the father of Elizabeth Abbott as she is not named in his DAR or SAR record. Except the DAR does list a Betsy who m. Jacob Abbot.

Answer: Primary sources for the children are now attached in the biography. Joshua and Elizabeth Abbott had a child named "Betsy" or "Betty;" there is no record for a child named "Elizabeth." And, yes, Betsy Abbott married Jacob Abbott. Skelton-1756 21:12, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
