Is there any evidence Joseph Kimball (born 1761) went to Clarendon, Vermont?

A large number of online trees claim that Joseph Kimball (born 1761, Windsor, Connecticut) was the Joseph Kimball who was married in 1789 at Clarendon, Vermont.  However, I have been unable to find any evidence to connect the two.  This supposed connection is repeated at familysearch.org, presumably based on Ancestry trees.  My hypothesis is that Joseph Kimball of Clarendon was instead related (brother?) to John Kimball who was married in Clarendon, Vermont, in 1800 (and he was from Rhode Island): https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kimbell-181

This is probably a different man, but Child's Gazetteer and business directory of Rutland County, VT has a blurb here on p. 216 of a Joseph Kimball in Rutland (town). I don't see anything else, unfortunately. The section on Clarendon begins on p. 114. Not a great source, but I sometimes find little tidbits in there for follow-up research.
