Believed to have been born in Canada 15 Aug 1875 of English parents

Moved to South Africa, possibly via UK ?

Was a police constable in Mafeking, Bechuanaland when he married Hendrina Wilhelmina Knott 25 August 1913

5 Daughters Mary Johanna, Ida Alice, Violet, Florence and Olive

Died 5 Jan 1940 in hospital in Umtata, Cape Province, South Africa, and was buried in his then home town, Port St Johns

I have not been able to find any record of his birth or his parents ??? Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated

Do you have the wikitree addon for your browser?

I would suggest that you get it.  

I found a profile that suggests that he was not born in Canada, but in England.

Birth - July 1879 - Yeovil. Somerset, England

Death - 5 Jan 1940 - Eastern Cape, South Africa

Father:  James Roswell.  Mother:  Anna

I also found his wedding info to Hedrenia Knott

and a death notice.  

Not great, but it can be investigated further.

I think though, I may be guilty, &  that what you found might be of my own doing. I used a 2 week free trial on Ancestry & didn't agree to take a membership so haven't returned to Ancestry ......

I thought that I'd found the right answer to his parents at the time. Not sure if their Thomas is the same one I found with a family in Wales in a later Census report ??

Rightly or wrongly I gave up on those parents when I saw on his death record (actually signed by my uncle Herbert Austin McKitterick) that he was born in Canada . . . .
