Dutch Roots Challenge: Maintenace Project Profiles / onderhoud project profielen

Hallo Allemaal,

Daarbij vragen we jullie hulp.

English:

The DRP/Netherlands project is organizing a challenge for everyone who wants to take part:

As we announced to our members during the Source-a-thon we are planning to orphan the next group of profiles. but only after giving them some extra love and care. We are talking about the post 1810-profiles the project manages (even post -1800 on the list) We ask your help to do this. If you've got some spare time you can do the following:

1.Choose a profile form this list and add your Wiki-ID to it.

2. Complete and source the profile as good as possible

3. Add maintenance category if needed (when BMD records are missing)

4. Remover the Project box

5. Note on the list  you have finished and if the profile is ready to be orphaned (or not: give reason)

6. Start at 1. if you are still in the mood.

Many thanks in advance for helping us out.

Is hierover verder iets bekend?

Yes, I've been focusing on Rotterdam profiles recently, and it seems almost all of them have broken links. It speaks to the need to do more than just put down a URL as a source - the original source data is useful too: (the physical archive and its location, Akte number, etc.)  Makes it easier to find it again if the website changes or disappears.
Hoi Eef,

Good to see how everyone steps in.

Can you please have a look at profile Borgsteede-154 and see if what I have done, is correct?

Wishing you a lovely day.

With kind regards, Carolina.
Hi Carolina,

Looks perfect, as usual with your contributions, thank you!
Hi Jan,

Thank you. Good to see you and good to know.

With kind regards,

Carolina

Tried to add my id to Kluijver-6, a profile I polished 10 october. The list was read-only.

Yes W, sheet was unintentially set readonly. Is Fixed now so you should be able to polish!

Hi Amanda, thank you for participating in this challenge.  In one of your actions I saw the comment "Needs profiles created" taken from the box in the profile and in the box "Make Orpan Y/N " an N. If a profile has the necessary sources it can be orphaned regardless of the needs.  If there are Needs you can turn the Project box into a sticker.  To do this, put the word Sticker > "Dutch Roots Sticker" after Dutch Roots (note Sticker with a capital letter).  This profile (Abbink-40) has sufficient sources.  I've edited the profile and noted it in the spreadsheet so you can see what I mean.

Met vriendelijke groeten Joop smiley

Thank you for your explanation Joop, it's very appreciated :)

Since we are with templates and needs, I have a question:

In "Het Nederlands Portaal" six (6) "needs" are listed; Needs=Death is not included but, in the URL https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Dutch_Roots_Project_Needs_Death, this category seems to be living..... Does this represent a changed rule or is Death here still "illegal"...?

We are looking into it. If you have a profile still needing a death source, you can use the Category for now. But it is a bit silly to have needs possibilities for the sticker and next to it categories doing the same job. Both are not complete. (death missing for the needs; marriage missing in the categories).

But be assured we are working on it and aware of the problem.

Hi Jan, thanks for your comment,

In het Nederlands Portaal you will find global information on a few, not all of them,  "Needs" in a template. In this case the most used (meest gebruikte). See: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Nederlands_Portaal/Afbeeldingen_en_Templates#Dutch_Roots_Needs_Templates

The Needs=Death is used less often because it has no value in itself as proof of a relationship to parents or children if it has been proven by a birth or baptism certificate.

Detailed information can be found in the Dutch Roots Project pages.  However, these will be reviewed, made more readable and the information will be coordinated in the various information pages.

Met vriendelijke groet, Joop

Thanks for the background lights on the "needs=Death" issue! Since birth and death being prime events in a person's life, they should be mentioned in each biography and - in case of missing - merit both to be listed in separate need lists of a genealogy database.

mvg, jan
But please note that the needs=Death may be long lived on a profile due to privacy restrictions, like availability of "overlijdensakten" only after a minimum of 50 years after death...

Trying to generalize.

Three of the six profiles I processed were parents of notables: the mother of Mata Hari and both parents of computer scientist Edsger Dijkstra. They looked very orphanable to me, but what with their notable relations?

They were Kluijver-1, her husband Dijkstra-521 and Hamstra-42.

I added my 2 cents. All Harlingen born persons can be orphaned.
by Melle van der Heide G2G4 (4.6k points)
Thanks Melle!!

The profiles will be orphaned. Joop is doing that job while I'm removing PPP's from the more recent profiles (most of the people who died after 1800).

I've seen several cases where the name of a spouse, not the name of the subject appeared in the project box text.
by W Koster G2G6 Mach 2 (21.1k points)
I do not remember having seen that ever. Do you have an example?
When I find another I'll report it and not remove the project box. The ones that are gone are gone .. But I mentioned a few (after removal) in the comments column of the maintenance worksheet (E).

Yes, found one. Tried to reconstruct the issue but failed unfortunately.

Maybe that editbot was part of the cause. Reconstructing it's actions (if at all possible) might then recreate the situation.

EditBot only added {{Dutch Roots|needs=Birth}}

Can hardly imagine that was the cause. There were numerous EditBot actions like that in November 2017, in the unfortunate unconditional conversion of the decorative Dutch Roots template to Dutch Roots projectbox, causing the tsunami of "931" suggestions.

Anyway, thanks for reporting the issue. And thanks for the substantial work you do in this challenge and for the Dutch Roots project in general!

I leave one in place. It changed after I edited the marriage and her husband. [[Hartman-1097]]

Adrianus Cooiman is gerelateerd aan Nederland.

Is that what it said before your edit action?

No, after my editing action. It has now reverted to the normal Cornelia Hartman is gerelateerd aan Nederland. As it was when I started. Might even be some tension between Firefox and the WT system. I like reproductivity, not this mess.

I agree W, it's messy.
This 'bug' happens when you edit a marriage. The name of the profile from which you made the edit will then appear on both spouse's profiles. It has something to do with a delay in the functions that parse the names in the templates.

This error solves itself within a few minutes. Then the correct names appear in the templates. So it is not really a big problem.
Glad it wasn't my imagination:)) Problem not solved, but no real obstacle.

Nice job.

I usually change the Dutch Roots Project box into the Dutch Roots sticker and move it just above the birth paragraph, updating it appropriately of course.

{{Dutch Roots  ->  {{Dutch Roots Sticker

Also I like the mention after each marriage if there were any children. e.g. They had at least X children together, if I see children linked from the marriage profile in WieWasWie
Thanks, Coen. I've never added a sticker before. But when I did i've put a yaar 1828 but it is displaying as 1811. Why is this? https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hogenberg-5
I tried copying another post and it still puts 1811 - see this one too! AAAgh!!

[[Ras-229|Klaassina (Ras) Hogenberg (1852-1889)]]

Hi Judy,

Actually all recorded "jaar" after 1811 are displayed as "na 1811", and "jaar" before that display as actually recorded. Probably because in 1811 civil registers were introduced.

I never record "jaar" or any of the other redundant parameters of the template. Why record "jaar" when it is already a basic data item (year of birth). Why record "provincie" when it should be one of the constituting elements of birth place.

Redundant recording of data invariable leads to data conflicts sooner or later. There is a suggestion in the Data Doctors project that checks "jaar" vs year in date of birth, see here for actual number. Caused by people changing year of birth without also changing "jaar" or vice versa.

Yes, I agree, it does seem a bit redundant to record birth year and place. So like this?

Yes, looks fine!
