Biography

Rev. Scott came to Missouri with his parents in 1857 when he was 3 years old. He was one of 17 children. There were three sets of twins, he being one of them. At the time of his death, he had only two brothers living, John and Joseph of Hester, Missouri. The Rev. Scott was educated in LaGrange College Missouri and the Baptist University of Louisville, Kentucky. He taught in public schools for three years after which time he devoted his time to the ministry.

He was ordained a Baptist minister in 1878.

From The Palmyra Spectator newspaper, 5/6/1897, Thursday: "Reverend Scott, who was called as Pastor to Mount Pleasant Church, filled his appointment first Sunday. Quite a crowd was out to hear him."

On August 25,1935, Rev. Scott was honored by the Maywood Church for his 60 years of ministry. He baptized hundreds of converts and had been known as a marrying parson because of the great number of weddings which he officiated. His longest pastorate of 25 years was held at Bethany Church in Marion County, Missouri. He was in active pastoral service from July 1, 1876, to June 1, 1928 (52 years).

Also, Reverend T.S. Scott is conducting a revival at Bethany assisted by Elder C. N. Crouch of Atlanta, Macon County. From the Shelby County Herald newspaper, Timothy Burk, whose serious illness, was reported in last week's Herald, died Wednesday, July 18, at the home of a son, J.E. Burk, near Newark. Funeral services were held at Asbury Chapel, east of Steffenville, Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock conducted by the Reverend S.E. Hoover, assisted by Reverend T.S. Scott.

S. Scott, and burial was made in the Philadelphia Cemetery. Her six grandsons were pallbearers for the funeral

Thomas Sanford died from a heart attack at his home in Philadelphia, Missouri.

Buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Steffenville, Lewis, Missouri, USA, headstone with Elizabeth A.
