Hi Alan

Please do not change place names on pre 1901 profiles for Australia. Prior to 1901 Australia historically did not exist as a country.

1 January 1901 the colonies "merged" to become the Commonwealth of Australia

Sorry about that Amanda, I didn't know. The drop down box is misleading and needs changing. I will have to review all my Australian profiles and correct those that are inaccurate.

Thanks for pointing out my error so gently.

Cheers, Alan.

No problems Alan. Unfortunately the dropdown menu is "supplied" by FamilySearch who refuse to acknowledge historical Australian placenames so it won't be updated.

Please don't worry too much about changing your Australian profiles. Each state's start date changes, one state was a province before it was a colony so it can get messy. Just please don't change any placenames on profiles that aren't created by yourself.

Thank you Amanda

Hi Maddy,

I am happy with my team choices. My priority list is Wiltshire (as I am Team Leader), Hampshire, Data Doctors. I am moving down to Cornwall in the near future so I may join that team as well, but not yet. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Alan.

Hi Alan: I am a descendant of Frederick (AKA Charles Miran, stage name) Hancock of the Hancocks of Wiltshire (as delineated in John Loadman's book). My grandmother Lillian Belle Miran (Charles/JohnJames/Lillian), his grand-daughter, claimed that the Hancocks of Wiltshire (Held the patent on India rubber) were related to the John Hancock of the US Declaration of Independance. I have no evidence of that. Do you know anything of this? John Stewart [email address removed]

Hi Alan!

I wrote to you recently as part of the England Project's six-monthly check-in with our project members. I haven't heard back from you. I hope you are well.

If you could please drop me a quick note to confirm whether you are still interested in the project and wish to remain an active member, that would be very helpful.

If we do not hear from you within the next 2 weeks, we will assume you are no longer active in the England Project and remove you from our list of project members. You would be most welcome to re-apply to join the project at a later time by signing-up on the project’s G2G welcome post.

Many thanks!

Hi Ian,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner but life has been a bit of a struggle recently thanks to Covid. I tested positive quickly followed by my wife and her 98 year old mother. The bad news is I tested myself again this morning expecting a better result but I am still positive, nine days after the symptoms first appeared. Also, today was the first time I contributed to WikiTree this month, which is most unusual for me. I am happy with my team choices at the moment. My current focus is to improve and extend my family tree using DNA matches. I have come to realise that I don't know enough about DNA so I have bought a couple of books that should help me make more sense out of it all. If there is a DNA team I would be interested in joining but I am not sure I would contribute much at the moment. Cheers, Alan.

Thanks Alan. Sorry to hear about the Coivd -- hope things improve soon. Yes, DNA can be a bit complicated ... and I sometimes get out of my depth too! We don't currently have a DNA team, although that's something we can bear in mind for the future.

Thanks again for being part of the England Project!

Hi Joan,

Sorry about the tardy reply; life has been hectic recently. Yes, of course I wish to stay involved with the England Project.

Currently I am slowly wading my way through OT2 and I am a member of the Hampshire team. I think it would be useful if I became a member of the Sussex and Cornwall teams. A branch of my family is from Sussex and I seem to spend quite a bit of time on Sussex profiles these days. My wife's maternal ancestors come from Cornwall and my mother-in-law has created a family history containing 9,500 individuals across 13 families. At some point I will be importing that lot into WT so I think it would be advantageous ii I was a member of the Cornwall team. Does that sound OK to you?

Thanks for touching base Joan. I am thoroughly enjoying being involved in WikiTree and it has become an important part of my daily life.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi Alan

I would to thank you for all your contributions towards the goals of the England Project during the past six months. We've achieved a huge amount during this period and we couldn't have done it without you and our other project members.

As the England Project Leaders, we are completing our six monthly check-in with all project members.

Are you happy to stay in your current project teams? Which teams are you most active in? Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?

Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future?

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks!

Hi Alan,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Lizzie, Amy, Joan

England Project Leaders

Hi All,

Sorry about the tardy reply but I had laptop problems so I bought a new one and it took me a while to get it set up properly. All going well now.

Currently I am wading through OT2 with Jo Fitz-Henry as my Trailblazer. She does a fantastic job and is always happy to answer my questions on any subject. I find working on these old profiles takes some getting use to. Often a lot of effort expended to make small changes to a profile. I am getting the hang of it.

Also, I am working on moving my family tree into WikiTree from my personal WebTrees database. It is quite a small tree, only about 1,200 profiles. I have got about 300 or so left to move and then a lot of tidying up to do. I am entering the profiles manually as Gedcom imports seem to cause a lot of issues and waste a lot of time.

I have recently joined the Hampshire team and hope to start contributing soon.

I am on Discord and think it is an excellent communications tool. I haven't contributed much yet though.

To sum up I am enjoying the WikiTree experience very much but it is early days for me and I know I have a lot more to learn before I become a productive member.

Thanks for keeping in touch.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. The Getting the Best from DNA page will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or problems, let me know.

Hello, Alan,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, coordinating with others is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Based on your recent contributions, the England Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to review other possibilities. Read the goals and tasks of the projects and join those which are a good fit.

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

This is a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far?

I see that you uploaded a GEDCOM. Do you have questions about the GEDCOMpare process?

Have the tips in the New Member How-Tos been helpful? Most of us still have some questions after reviewing them.

Welcome Alan!

I am pleased to confirm you as a full member, and welcome you to the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site.

Happy tree climbing,
