I grew up just north of New York City, went to college in Rhode Island, and have been a transplant to the Midwest since the early 90’s. When I’m not doing genealogy, I’m a flutist and teacher. I felt a tug towards family history when I was a child because of the family belief that the Tudor name in our tree somehow tied us to Henry the VIII. However, it wasn't until 2015 when I got seriously into genealogy research. During the summer of 2023, I took Boston University's Genealogical Principles course and plan to pursue my credentials as a Certified Genealogist.
My maternal family names are: McMurray, Menzie, Ratnour, King, Schaff/Shaft, Redwood, Tudor, Chandler and Ealy. To put these into geographical context, my main areas of research are in South Gloucestershire, UK; Niagara Falls, Canada; and Madison County, NY.
My father's family is from Taipei, Taiwan (surname 柯). My Chinese name is 柯妙娜. 妙娜 was given to me by my paternal grandfather and it was his favorite girl's name.
I spend my time on WikiTree with the England, Scotland, Wales and Canada projects. In addition to research, I also lead the Events Committee and serve as a Mentor. I lead monthly New Member Q & A sessions via Zoom and also enjoy being one of the hosts for the Saturday Roundup livecast on WikiTree's YouTube channel.
I've been honored to be featured as a Member of the Week in May 2023 and August 2022.

We are cousins, though distant. It appears that we are both related to Alice (Kebble) Perkins (Kebble-2), which is through my paternal grandmother's line. I am working on several of my ancestors, of which are ones that came from England, Scotland, Germany, Netherlands, and Ireland. Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important that you read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles help page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Thanks for your message! I have been working my way through the beginner how-to guides. Yesterday I tried to upload a gedcom file of my Ancestry tree. I tried twice and then it told me that there was an error uploading my file. What should I try now? If it matters, it said my file was "GEDCOM 178589: Ko Tudor Redwood Family Tree.ged".
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can make.

One possible reason might be the file size. There is a limit of 5,000 people per GEDCOM, but I would recommend starting with a much smaller file to begin with. The link I sent you above gives some information about splitting your file.
I will ask a colleague if they can check what the issue is, but it may take time to get an answer.

That makes sense. But I'm nowhere near that number of people. I have just under 550 people in my tree.
I don't mind being patient for an answer. (Weekend is my big genealogy time.)

The file size is really large in spite of being for a limited number of people. My colleague says she has seen that before with files created by Ancestry. She suggests you import it to a different software package, then create a new GEDCOM from there. She says RootsMagic has a free version that she has had good luck with.
Another thing you might try is to exclude photos, or attached documents, if that is possible. You can’t import photos via GEDCOM.

I'm glad you are already excited about WikiTree. I absolutely love it here! I use Ancestry and FamilySearch as well. WikiTree is my 'final' resting place for those ancestors though as I can form a more complete biography and source collection here. I'm usually around if you have questions.
