When I first started my interest in genealogy, I wanted quantity... I now now that quality of data is more important! That said, I'm willing to make changes when pointed out. Some data is clear, other is murky. We can all help each other.

Hello Robert. I'm trying to find where on this crowded site do I click "thank-you". I appreciate your detailed profile of our shared ancestor Jesse Hurlbut.

Thanks Robert for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz

As Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within a project coordinating them is essential. Please ensure location data matches dates of profile, avoid abbreviations, add sources with citations & links for sources to support the data. From wiki ID go to Research to find sources

The United States  Project would be of interest. Adding the tag UNITED_STATES will connect you

Explore Pre-1700 Projects list to find one that fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic

Hi Robert,

Please take a close look at the GEDCOMpare process instructions. Particularly, editing profiles Please do not add a reference to an unsourced Ancestry.com tree, when the profile is well sourced.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your message. In answer to your question, the current limit is 150 years have a read of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Privacy

The profiles in most cases are automatically reset once the birth year is 150 years ago.

In general the setting is 150 years so the connecting profiles are also likely to be deceased.

In regards to newbies. The England project has a training programme using the orphan profiles as far as I am aware this is not yet done within other projects.

If you have English ancestors then add ENGLAND as a tag and join us in the project and work through the Orphan Trail.

Hope this answers you questions

Janet

Hi Robert

How is it going so far, were the How-Tos pages helpful or did they leave you with questions?

Clicking your green tags shows members who follow that tag. Add tags other family surnames, for locations add a tag for US_HISTORY The more tags you add the more links to community & research options  Information on tags is on page one of the How To pages.

We want to help you learn about the site and the community, hopefully you found the pages and links useful.

Questions click my name & ask in the comment box on my page or post in the G2G Forum (see Help top right of your Profile

Hi Robert,

Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can start adding your family. Let me know if you have any questions.

Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour for new members at New Member How-To. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.

Once you add profiles to WikiTree they become searchable and in my experience persons interested in these profiles will contact you and may provide further information to expand your family tree.

Great to have you on board, enjoy, and good luck growing your branches.

Ludwig :)
