Catherine Burns was born in 1918 in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York. She was the daughter of Francis Burns and Catherine Dunn.

Catherine passed away on 22 Jan 1939 on Oneida Lake in Sullivan, Madison County, New York.^[1] She was buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery in DeWitt, Onondaga, New York.^[2]

Research Notes

Catherine was 1 year and 8 months old when the 1920 US Census was taken; indicating that she was born in the spring of 1918.

Catherine's death certificate was indexed under the name "Kathleen Burns";^[1] and there are a couple of newspaper articles about the incident that led to her death that reference her as such. However, all census records (in which she was enumerated) and the vast majority of newspaper articles refer to her as "Catherine Burns".

We can be sure that the Kathleen Burns referenced in the New York State death index is in fact, Catherine Burns, given the location and date of death.^[1] This is identical to the location and death of Catherine's fiancé, Martin B. Newell.^[3]
