Biography

Pieter was born in 1691 at Kingston, Ulster County, New York and was baptized at the Reformed Dutch Church there on 4 October 1691.[1]

He registered banns of marriage with Anna-Barbara Muller, a native of Germany, on 12 May 1717 in the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, New York. It is not clear if they were married; she died either shortly after registering banns or shortly after the marriage. The record, which Hoes placed under the heading of May 10th, states that she "drowned in the creek on the 7th [sic] of May."[2]

Pieter next married Antjen Merke on 25 November 1720, also at the Reformed Dutch Church in Kingston.[3]

They had several children:[4]

  1. Peter Winne, born September 1721; married Arriantje Van Etten.
  2. Frederick Winne, September 1723; married Anna Maria DeWitt.
  3. Arent Winne, September 1725; married Annatje Langedyck.
  4. Lourens Winne, June 1727; married Catherine Bekker.
  5. Johannes Winne, born May 1729; married Rachel Adriance.
  6. Annatjen Winne, baptized 23 September 1733.
  7. Christian Winne, born October 1735; married Maria DeWitt.
  8. Matthew Winne, born about 1739; married Margrietje Adriance.
  9. Jannetje Winne Schart, born about 1742.

Pieter died some time after 1742, the last recorded date for the birth of one of his children.<[5]

I have added the marriage date of Pieter Winne to Antje Merkel/Merkal as recorded in the Old Dutch Church Records Kingston, Ulster County, New York as published by Roswell Randall Hoes (1891). It is noted that "In this Marriage Register there are many entries of the publication of banns where there is no accompanying record of a subsequent marriage." It says that the banns were registered on November 6th, 1720 and that they were married on November 25th. 1720. This should be sufficient proof of the marriage.

Winne-138 and Winne-91 appear to represent the same person because: Same wife and marriage date is close. Death date doesn't match but Winne-138 could be wrong.

Winne-132 and Winne-91 appear to represent the same person because: Same birthdate and location, same parents (mergers on the parents' generation are now complete, as of 12 January 2015). Death dates of 1771 and "after 1742" are compatible, but it would be nice to have some solid sourcing.
