CIVIL WAR VETERAN

Filed his Civil War draft registration in 1863, enlisting as a 22 year-old unmarried farmer in Palmyra, Michigan. He enlisted to serve the Union as a Private on 24 Oct 1863. He was assigned to Company D, 11th Cavalry Regiment of Michigan on 3 Nov. He was transferred into Company M, of Michigan's 8th Cavalry Regiment on 20 Jul 1865 as a Fourth Corporal. He was later mustered Out of Company M, 8th Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 22 Sep 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee after having been promoted to Full Corporal during his service.
