Disproven Existence Project as Profile Manager

This is the profile ("project account") for the Disproven Existence Project. Its main purpose is to help curate profiles representing people that research has shown never existed but which persist across the internet.

The project account should be added to either the trusted list or as a profile manager to any profile in Category:Disproven Existence, which is added when the research notes box {{Disproven Existence}} or the project box {{Disproven Existence Project}} is added to the profile. (The project recommends one or the other, not both. If the project is a manager, the project box must be added - see this G2G post. If another project is manager, then WikiTree-52 should be added to the trusted list only.)

See the project page for criteria and steps for adding a profile to Category:Disproven Existence (by either {{Disproven Existence}} or {{Disproven Existence Project}}).

To add the project to the trusted list, go to the Privacy tab and add

wikitree-disproven-existence[at]googlegroups.com

in the box under the trusted list (copy/paste & replace [at] with @ before clicking "Add this Person") - then click [Add as Manager] to the right of the entry for it to add the project as a manager.

Google Group

Project members should join the Google Group - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/wikitree-disproven-existence - which will receive daily and weekly e-mails of activity in followed tags and watchlist profiles (although members can choose to not receive Google Group e-mails, that sort of defeats the design of management by project).

Comments posted to this page are sent to the Google Group as an e-mail, and private messages sent to WikiTree-52 also go to the Google Group.

The Google Group is a closed forum, including members only. If you are interested in joining the project, please let us know by posting a comment to this page. G2G is the public forum. Please include the disproven_existence on posts there.

Management by Disproven Existence Project

A project account tied to a Google Group that project members join, and receive e-mails from, allows for effective "management by project." For the Disproven Existence Project, that could include

• helping people work through the process to add {{Disproven Existence}} to a profile and
• reviewing Category:Uncertain Existence for profiles that should probably be Category:Disproven Existence and working through the process to get them there.

The crucial role of the Disproven Existence Project and its members is to ensure the integrity of those profiles placed in the project's care. To ensure that a profile does not re-assume a mask of respectability and a place in a valid tree once the profile - or an entire family of profiles - has worked through the process and been tagged

At that point, the role of the project becomes that of a caretaker, to include

• providing project protection for these profiles;
• seeking and merging duplicate profiles, while ensuring that no information or "relatives" previously removed from the profile reappears; and
• monitoring changes to ensure the profiles retain the information supporting their status as {{Disproven Existence}}.

And in the event of newly discovered evidence that may lead to a reversal of the "Disproven" status, the Disproven Existence Project & its members could facilitate discussion in G2G and relevant WikiTree projects.
