The death was reported to registrar Thomas Henderson on Tuesday, November 19, 1861, in Haddington by husband John Reid .

John's sister, Marion Whitelaw died on Monday, February 10, 1862, at East Linton, at the age of sixty-seven, according to her Parish of Prestonkirk in the County of Haddington death register entry.
The entry also states that she was single; she was a domestic servant; her father was Archibald Whitelaw, a ploughman; her mother was Marion Whitelaw (deceased), formerly Turnbull; she died of paralysis; her illness lasted a few years; and her death was certified by Wm MacKay, surgeon.
The death was reported to registrar Thomas Findlay on Tuesday, February 11, 1862, in East Linton by brother Archibald Whitelaw, of Prestonpans.

1862 - Marriage: 4 Inverleith Row, Edinburgh, Scotland. [21]
A marriage register entry for the District of St George in the City of Edinburgh tells us that on Monday, June 2, 1862, at 4 Inverleith Row, 62-year-old widower John Whitelaw, a cow dealer, married 24-year-old spinster Ann Forbes, a domestic servant, after banns according to the forms of the Established Church of Scotland.
The register entry also informs us that groom John lived at Nungate, Haddington; his father was labourer Archibald Whitelaw (deceased) and his mother was Marion Whitelaw, formerly Turnbull. Furthermore, bride Ann lived at Campton, Haddington; her father was farm servant Adam Forbes .
Minister Of Eagleshaw Henry David Hill, performed the ceremony, witnessed by Thomas Christie and Margaret Forest. The marriage was reported in Edinburgh on Tuesday, June 10, 1862, to assitant registrar Robert Dicky.

Furthermore, the entry names his father as John Whitelaw, a cattle dealer; his mother as Ann Whitelaw, formerly Purvis; and they married on Monday, June 2, 1862, at Edinburgh. Father John Whitelaw reported the birth to registrar Thomas Henderson on Friday, March 11, 1864, in Haddington.
Note: Adam's birth was subject to an RCE correcting the miss-recording of his mother's name as Purvis to Forbes.

John's brother, Cornelius Whitelaw died on Saturday, February 18, 1865, at Tranent, at the age of sixty-four, according to his Parish of Tranent in the County of Haddington death register entry.
The entry also states that he was widower of Janet Johnston; he was a master gardener; his father was Archibald Whitelaw (deceased) (deceased), a farm steward; his mother was Marion Whitelaw (deceased) (deceased), formerly Turnbull; and he died of atrophy of the heart.
The death was reported to registrar William Hamilton on Thursday, February 22, 1866, in Tranent by daughter Helen Whitelaw, who was present at the time of death.

The Parish of Haddington in the County of Haddington birth register entry for William Alexander Whitelaw records that he was born on Saturday, January 6, 1866, at Nungate, Haddington.
Furthermore, the entry names his father as John Whitelaw, a cow dealer; his mother as Ann Whitelaw, formerly Forbes; and they married on Wednesday, June 3, 1863. Father John Whitelaw, who was present at the time of birth, reported the birth to registrar Thos Keogh on Tuesday, January 23, 1866, in Haddington.

The death was reported to registrar Thomas Kemp on Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Haddington by son James Whitelaw, of Edinburgh.
