Biography

"Thomas White, first mentioned in 1524, in Merriot, where he was assessed, also in Whitcomb, parish of Martok, where he bought land in 1537-8: For himself and his sons George, John, Richard, and Thomas, Jr. We do not find dates of birth, marriage or death, but his wife by the Fines was Agnes, widow of ---- Paul, sister of John Richards, of Aller. His name appears until 1543-4, but was dead in 1549, when Agnes made her will as a widow.^[1]

Research Notes

Thomas White of Merriot and Martok was not the son of Robert White and Elizabeth Inglefield. This couple were the parents of a different Thomas White, of South Warnborough, Hampshire, who may have been a cousin of Thomas White of Merriot and Martok. Both of these Thomas Whites had wives named Agnes.
