Biography
Alanson was born in 1800. He was the son of Caleb Ward and Nancy Rice. Alanson was a shoemaker. His direct ancestor, John Rice 1646- 1730, learned the trade of shoemaking (cordwainer) in England. In Rhode Island, John worked as a cordwainer by trade. Many in the Rice line carried on the tradition of shoemaking like Alanson.
He married Olive Perkins. [1] Their children were:
- Lucy Ward 1826–1859
- Waterman Ward 1827–1884
- Adelia Louise Ward 1835–1895
They lived in Middlebury, Genesee, New York in 1830. [2]He moved his family to Portage, Allegany, New York before 1840. [3] They moved to Lansing, Ingham, Michigan before 1850. [4] Alanson passed away in 1870 [5] and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan. [6]
