George Washington stayed overnight at the Henry Van Meter place (he spelled it Vanmetriss) during his surveying trip to the Old Fields area in 1748. George was only 16 years old at the time.[citation needed]
Residence and Migrations
Place: South Branch Potomac Valley, Hampshire County, Virginia (now West Virginia)
Note: from New Jersey
Marriage
Henry VanMeter and Rebecca DuBoyes were recorded as marrying on 7 May 1741[2] in the First Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania [3][4]
Church Records
30 April 1741: Henry Van Meter was the third signer to the covenant of the Pilesgrove Presbyterian Church in Salem County, New Jersey, the first two signers being his parents Isaac and Hannah Van Meter.[5]
4 February 1741/2: Rebekah, wife of Henry V. Meter Jur., was admitted to communion.[6]
26 September 1742: baptism of Isaac, son of Henry V. Meter, Jur, & Rebekah his wife.[7]
Will
The will of Henry Van Meter is dated 16 February 1778 and was proved at Hampshire County, Virginia (now in West Virginia) on 12 May 1778.[8] It names
wife Rebecca, children Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Abraham, and Solomon
Many have confused this Henry Van Meter with his uncle Hendrick Jansen Van Meteren who remained in New Jersey (notably Van Meter, Gens. and Sketches of Some Old Fams.). This Henry married Rebecca duBois and probably no one else.

I have a source that states Henry is the son of Annetje, but not Catherine. Along with confirmation through records found on Ancestry.com that Henry and Rebecca DuBois were together. Married 7 Mar 1741 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The statement that Isaac married just once, to Hannah or Annah Wyncoop in 1717, is made many places — for instance in the influential work by Smyth, at the very bottom of the page linked here:
But Smyth wrote a book seven years later where he changed this opinion, although the earlier claim had continued to be propagated, as seen in several places including that SAR application.
The evidence for Isaac's wives was scattered on their profiles, and importantly not on his profile, so I have now added sourcing and analysis to Isaac's profile. There is no doubt that he had a wife named Cateline/Catherine until 1725 and married Annah Wyncoop only later. There is no direct evidence to show which woman was the mother of his various children, excepting Sarah and Abraham, who had baptism records. But since Henry married in 1741, it is clear he was born earlier than 1725, when Isaac was still married to Cateline. So Henry's mother could not have been the later wife Annah Wyncoop.
Hello Jessie, I see also that you edited the date of marriage from March to May 1741. However, footnote 2 in the bio states that the linked source for the marriage record lists all dates in old style giving first month, then day, then year (the beginning of that book states that this is the format). So 3, 7, 1741 means the marriage was in the third month. And in the old calendar, the first month of the year was March, the second was April, and the third was May. So the marriage actually did happen in the month of May, not March, and the marriage date on the profile should be reverted to May.
I would like to add Henry and Rebecca's son Abraham as child to their profiles. Here's Abraham's profile... https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Vanmeter-71 We arre working on the Weekly challenge for Henry Louis Gates, and Abraham was the slave master for one of the branches of Gates' ancestors. Hoping this can be completed by end of day Wed Feb 9. Thanks.
I have Henry, retained lands in New Jersey, entertained George Washington while he was surveying in 1748 (South Branch of the Potomac and the "Trough" is how Washington described Henry's place). It's believed he died soon after his father, Isaac. His will was written 2 May 1752, proved 8 Dec 1759. Children in his will: 1) Joseph, 2) David, 3) John, 4) Ephraim, 5) Fetters, 6) Benjamin, married Bathseba Dunlap , 7) Jacob, 8) Elizabeth, 9) Rebecca.

VanMeter-52 and Van Meter-84 appear to represent the same person because: as far as I can tell, Van Meter-84 is the lowest profile number for this Henry with the Van Meter spelling and styling. (Please note - it's this Henry who married Rebecca, not Van Meter-6). Thanks, Liz
